There
was food, beverages, dancing and a merriment a plenty among the
assembled masses. Indeed there was very good turn out with around
sixty members in attendance.
Almost
everyone was coaxed into dancing at some part of the evening - even
teenagers!!

The
awards ceremony itself was performed by the usual double act Jonathan
and Jim. This year Jonathan's theme for the proceeding paid homage
to Sue Townsend encapsulating the year's events through:

| Thursday
1st January
- Dear diary. Everyone, except my mother in law, knows I'm not
a paper and pen man, digging holes and sinking poles is more
my thing. Still mother in law decided to buy me this diary for
Christmas, so I may as well see if I can use it. It'll help
me to organise my life, I am after all vice chairman of the
canoe club for another year, and I might just use it to keep
a record of my year. You never know, I might write a book, or
even get a ghost-writer to do it for me. "My Life Underwater"
by Jim Nolan - its got a ring to it - but I'll work on it. |
| Saturday
24th January
- Here we go. Its my own fault. Its about time I got my roll
sorted out. Pool session tonight, I'm going to learn to roll
that yellow tug of mine if it kills me. |
| Sunday
25th January
- I DO NOT BELIEVE IT!!!! Its not right dear diary, I say its
just not right. Last night I broke my almost new paddle, 120
flamin quid, and I broke it using the John Towler rolling method.
I only pushed off the bottom of the pool for goodness sake. |
| Wednesday
28th January
- 5 quids worth of fibre glass and my paddles as good as new.
Back in business. |

Wednesday
18th February
Spoke to Mr. Chairman, they've all come back from Scotland.
Fort William they went, and it sounds like they've got quite
a few stories to tell.

High
Priestess to the river god
Felicity Downing
For
her first ever river. The Roy in Scotland. Did not know what
to expect. Paddled for about 100m then came across a first
stretch of white water and had a good swirm. Paddler and boat
were brought together after 5 minutes, she got in and paddled
on. No further river swims recorded other than an excursion
at Teesside.
