The Minors return

As can be seen from the three photos (above) our fearless minors and intrepid coaches managed to navigate all 511 metres of the Gannow Tunnel with effortless ease. Despite the dark, the dank and the debris, the party took only a few minute to cover the distance before emerging at the eastern end.
We were now very near to the end of the trip and in a few minutes were disembarking just before the Whitlefield aqueduct.

While some took the chance to stretch their legs, others carried on the few metres to the aqueduct and took opportunity to have the unusual experience of paddling over the M65!

Another fine day out, next time the river Ribble - probably.

Their are many good web sites on the Leeds and Liver pool canal, the link (below) to the Pennine Waterways site is particularly good. The link points to a section of the site providing a virtual tour from Burnley to Blackburn. There you will find more pictures of the section we covered.

Finally last, but far from least, click here or on page 6 to see the impressions of the day kindly written by one of our junior members - many thanks to Cameron for his efforts. Next time I will be asking for a female young person to contribute and in true mystic Meg fashion I see the letter "Z" and a vegetarian life style being influencing factors!

TTFN.
