Bridge construction

As usual on these occasion there are regular stop to understand aspects of the canal's construction and history. The first stop of the day was to compare bridge construction methods employed by the canal builders, with that of modern bridge builders.

If you would like to know then then come along next time.

A winding hole

The trip continued at a comfortable pace and we were soon at another feature of interest - a winding hole.

While Jem explained the function of the winding hole to an attentive and appreciative audience, Zoe made sure her technical headgear was captured for posterity. Well what do you expect a minor to wear!

Others took the chance to grab a leisurely drink and look cool.

Bob

About this time the juniors discovered an orphan duckling just floating around.

Despite and indeed largely because of the obvious state of neglect "he" was in, it was decided to taking him along for the ride, to act as our mascot. He was duly given pride of place in the front seat of Jem's open to enjoy the remainder of the trip. In honour of what he was doing when found the minors decide to name him "Bob".
