Jem Lees again kindly organised and lead Clitheroe Canoe Club's March canal trip. The trip was again along a stretch of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, this time starting at Altham, map reference SD775319 (OS Map Landranger 103) and finishing just after the Gannow tunnel (map reference SD831330). A journey of approximately five kilometres.

The turnout was again impressive, with a mix of around 20 juniors, adults and coaches met at the Club house. Indeed this was especially impressive the clocks having gone forward that morning and several members having attended the Vice Chairman's 40th birthday celebrations the previous evening.

As always the objective of trips like this is to encourage the broadest possible participation. So a mix of kayaks and open canoes were used. Parents and partners are not just welcome to help with transport, but also welcome to try a paddle in an open or simply sit and watch the scenery as someone else paddles. Formalities and loading completed, the group headed off towards the Burnley area via Simonstone, before parking up at the start point. Pictured left is the put in on the tow path.

Robert keeping the troops entertained.

It was a Typical East Lanacashire day for the time of year, overcast with a blustery wind and the threat of rain. But as usual Jem had arranged that the wind was in our favour. Indeed the wind was so strong it was difficult to remain still on the water. The coaches took full advantage of conditions to keep the party entertained for ten or so minutes while the drivers dropped the cars of at the other end.

Many thanks to Zoe's Dad for providing the lift back.
