Lunch over and the process of re-embarcation completed, we set off once more in the direction of East Marton.

Soon there came the first excitement of the day as we met the only other boat we saw moving that day. As usual with canal folk pleasantries were exchanged and the captain was heard to mutter something about his gearbox as he passed on his way.

Hope he knew the way was blocked at Greenber!

We then came to the fascinating bridge 161, over which runs the A59 as it wends it way between East and West Marton.

No one in the group came up with a reasonable explanation for such a design.

Since the trip, it has been suggested that reason for the design was to level out the dip in the road at this point on the A59. One of our members thinks he can remember the road being diverted on to a temporary bridge in the late 60s or early 70s. Though he was unsure as to whether this was to build the second arch or for some other reason.
