April 2006
Welcome
to the new season [back to top]
| After
a long cold and wet winter, spring is thankfully once more upon
us and we can now look forward to a new season on Chatburn Water
and beyond. As you will no doubt know by now the first Saturday
session was the 15th April with, as normal, a coaching session
at 1:30pm and a fun session at 3:00pm. |
 |
Wednesday
evening practice sessions will start on the 19th of April. These
sessions are dependent on a coach being available and are informal sessions
intended for 2 Star standard paddlers and coaches to practice
their personal skills.
Wednesday
sessions are free to coaches, but there will be a charge to members
of £2 per session if you are using your own kit, or £3
if using club kit. A season ticket is available for £20.
We also hope to run an open boating coaching session one evening a week
details to
follow.
Many thanks
to the group of intrepid volunteers who, in preparation for the new
season, did some spring cleaning, maintenance on kit and clubhouse.
I hope you will all notice our new cutom made clothing racks. We have
now largely disposed of the existing racks and many of the much-disliked
coat hangers. We hope this investment will dramatically improve our
lives, particularly the coaches, as it will make putting kit away a
simple job. So please when you take kit off the new racking put it back
tidily in the appropriate place. There will no longer be any excuse
for leaving it on the floor!!
Finally,
as you will Im sure by now be aware, membership fees for the 2006/7
season are now payable. To aid cash flow and avoid the additional cost
of reminder letters, could I urge you to renew your membership as soon
as you possibly can. Full details of membership and sessions fees can
be found [here].
I look
forward to seeing you soon,
Neville

Pool Session [back to top]
By the
time you read this newsletter the pool session will have come to an
end. We hope those of you who have participated in the sessions have
found them both useful and enjoyable. The coaches look forward to working
with you in the coming season to build on the skills you have learned.
Many thanks to all the coaches for their efforts as well as everyone
that helped out moving kit at the start and end of sessions. We hope
you will agree that generally the sessions went smoothly. There was
a problem with the first Fun session having to be cancelled due to equipment
failure at the pool, unfortunately these things happen and this was
beyond our control. However, apologies are in order to the 5 members
affected by our need to cancelling the final session on the 8th April.
We were force to do this as the club needs to run a coaching standardisation
session for coaches before the start of the new season and the 8th was
the only available date.
While your
experiences of the 2005/6 sessions are still fresh in the mind, could
we have your thought on how it went? If you have any constructive comments
or suggestion as to how the sessions could be improved, or even if you
like them the way they are, please drop us a line at info@clitheroecanoeclub.org.uk,
or talk to any committee member.
