North West Weekend 2006 [back to top]

Next year’s Northwest Weekend is being held at the Nene Whitewater course, Northampton. The weekend will be on 27th and 28th of May and promises to be a weekend of fun, competitions and coaching.

The expected start on the Saturday will be 1pm to allow time for travelling. This years event is aimed at the novice and improver whitewater paddlers as the Nene course is suitable for all levels of paddlers, and especially suited for those new to whitewater.

There will be a family-fun atmosphere over the weekend, with all events aimed to get paddlers and spectators enjoying themselves. Entry will be £20 per person including on-site camping. There will be concessions for families. And of course demo boats will be available over the weekend for you to try out. So keep the 27th & 28th of May free!!

Why not check out their website: http://www.nenewhitewatercentre.co.uk

Open Boating [back to top]

As you may be aware, the club is trying to resurrect open boating. The plan is for us to have at more that one qualified coach available in 2006 to develop this aspect of our activities. Working towards this end Neville Wilkinson is happy to come down on Sundays through the winter to allow interested adult members to begin developing open boating skill. This will necessarily be on an ad-hoc basis i.e. when Neville is available and members want to come down and the weather
is not too inclement and there are no trips on. You get the picture, we would hope to open up at once or twice a month at mutually convenient times - to be arranged.

The cost of this activity will be the covered by the "Winter Pass" ticket covered elsewhere in this newsletter. If you are interested contact Neville on 01254 246971 or email:info@clitheroecanoeclub.org.uk.

Resources [back to top]

The club have purchased a couple of DVD from some of our ex-members who have made a spectacular and very professional record of their paddling exploits around the world.

If you would like to hire these the cost will £2 per week.

Next Committee Meeting [back to top]

The date of the next committee meeting is Monday 30th January. If you have any ideas of matter you feel needs brining to the committees attention then why not raise it. You can talk to any committee member or contact them via the web site info@clitheroecanoeclub.org.uk.

Coach Update [back to top]

There will be a Coaching update on Saturday 8th April 2006. The purpose of the update is to agree the standards for assessing 2 and 3 star skills. We will also agree the coaching format for 2006.

All coaches and trainee coaches are invited to attend. The update will start at 1pm and continue until 5pm after which we will retire to the Brown Cow for a few drinks. Can all coaches please let Sarah or Andy know if they will be available?

The update will also count towards the BCU coach update requirements and will save you from having to attend another update this year. So if you are eligible please make an effort to attend we will try to make it a fun-filled and worthwhile day for everyone.
