RIBBLE
Valley mayor Charles Warkman (pictured) used the bank holiday
weekend to try his hand at canoeing.
The
87-year-old councillor visited Clitheroe Canoe
Club at Chatburn to test new canoes bought with a £5,000
grant from Ribble Valley Council.
His
visit was part of an open
day attended by youth groups and local families to promote the
club's facilities.
Jonathan
Downing, of the dub, said: "He didn't get too wet. There
were a few spots of water but he survived.
"It was a great day and the bad weather didn't put people
off. When you talk about canoes and kayaks a bit of rain doesn't
matter."
